Elmy Bermejo was appointed to the Commission on the Environment by Mayor Ed Lee on May 14, 2015. Elmy is Director of Intergovernmental Affairs at the U.S. Department of Labor, where she is responsible for strengthening relationships with the National Governors Association, the U.S. Conference of Mayors, the National Association of Counties, the U.S. League of Cities, and other organizations.

Elmy has served in leadership positions in the public and advocacy arenas in California and Washington D.C. for more than 20 years, including as Interim Executive Director of the Latino Issues Forum, Chair of the California State Commission on the Status of Women, and Deputy Secretary for the California State and Consumer Services Agency. She also served as special assistant to Senator Don Perata, working on issues that impact women and children, outreach to the Latino/Latina community, and engagement with ethnic media. Elmy has also served on the Board of Directors of Leadership California and Hispanas Organized for Political Equality (HOPE), where she chaired Latina Action Day in Sacramento.
